Gold vermeil, also known as gold plated, is ever increasing in popularity. Essentially, gold vermeil is a 14K or 22K gold over sterling silver. To be considered vermeil, the gold must be a minimum of 1.5 micrometers thick and a minimum of 10K. If you were to cover sterling silver with brass, for instance, this could not be 'vermeil'. The gold vermeil is generally produced by electrolysis. The sterling silver is electroplated with 120 layers of gold. The benefits of gold vermeil is that the gold will not tarnish or wear off when properly cared for.

Care Instructions

You should never machine polish gold vermeil jewelry as the process is too hard on the delicate metal. Instead, a jewelry polishing cloth or a soft lint free cloth will do nicely to remove any oils or dirt that may accumulate on your jewelry from normal wear.
