What size urn do I need for my dog?

Urn capacity is measured in cubic inches. One pound of body weight = one cubic inch of ashes. If your dog weighed 40 pounds, you would chooses a pet urn that will hold up to 40 cubic inches of cremated ashes. Keep in mind if you intend to share the ashes of your pet with other family members, spread some of the ashes at a special location or add additional items to the inside of the urn such as a collar or other memento. All of these factors can impact the size of urn you decide on.

How much is an urn for ashes?

Urn prices vary based off of the material the urn is made from and the size of the urn.  Urns for ashes range in price from $50 up to over $1000 for art inspired cremation urns. For example, the Small Alder Urn with Pawprints is priced under $50 and will hold up to 30 cubic inches of cremated ashes.

How long till I get my dog ashes back?

Most cremated ashes from dogs are returned to the owner within 7-10 days from the date of loss.  Typically, the cremated ashes of your pet are returned in a polyethelene bag that is placed in a box of some sort - either a cardboard box or an urn if that was specified. Every veterinarian practice is different however and may have different polices and procedures when it comes to pet cremation. Check with your local veterinarian for exact time frames.
